Plataformas 1.0 is a typology for housing governmental institutions. The competition involved 3 sites in 3 different regions of Ecuador, with similar programs. odD+ synthesized a typology that would impact these cities at an urban as well as an architectural scale. The goal was to dramatically improve urban living conditions and quality of life in these cities through the creation of multi-functional and dynamic urban hubs. By scaling up the courtyard typology and mixing it with a tower condition, we were able to open the site to not only the employees of the governmental sector, but to the general public. Through incorporating public spaces such as parks and plazas, and integrating a dense commercial program, we activate the site with movement and people, creating a community based social and cultural hub.
Passive design techniques were implemented for natural cooling and ventilation. By raising the parking level above ground, low impact strategies were applied to minimize excavation.
